At the heart of my work…

Helping children, teens, and young adults feel safe, confident, and supported as they grow.

Meet the therapist

Hi, I’m Paola León, the founder of Corazón de León Therapy and a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in California (LMFT #138914). I work with children, adolescents, and young adults navigating anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation, and life transitions, offering care that is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to each individual’s lived experience.

I’m a proud first-generation Latina and bilingual therapist (English & Spanish). I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Child & Adolescent Development from Cal State Fullerton, and my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. My lived experience deeply shapes how I show up for my clients with empathy, cultural awareness, and respect.

At Corazón de León Therapy, my work is grounded in a client-centered, culturally responsive approach. I believe therapy is not about fixing you, but about helping you reconnect with your inner strengths, develop emotional tools, and feel more grounded and confident in yourself.

More About Me

Modalities I Use:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an evidence-based approach that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT helps clients identify unhelpful thinking patterns and develop practical skills. This modality is goal-oriented, collaborative, and effective for concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, and life transitions.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a structured, skills-focused therapy that emphasizes balancing acceptance and change. DBT helps clients build skills in mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. It is particularly helpful for individuals who experience intense emotions, difficulty managing stress, or challenges in relationships.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) encourages clients to develop psychological flexibility by learning to accept difficult thoughts and emotions rather than fighting them. ACT focuses on clarifying personal values and taking meaningful, values-aligned action even in the presence of discomfort. This approach can be helpful for anxiety, depression, trauma, and ongoing life stressors, fostering greater resilience and self-compassion.trauma, and ongoing life stressors, fostering greater resilience and self-compassion.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a trauma-informed therapy that helps clients process and resolve distressing memories and experiences that may contribute to present-day symptoms. Through bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements), EMDR supports the brain’s natural healing process, allowing traumatic material to be integrated in a less emotionally charged way. I am EMDR-trained and use this approach to help clients reduce trauma-related distress and enhance overall emotional well-being

  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a specialized, evidence-based treatment designed to help children, adolescents, and their caregivers process traumatic experiences. TF-CBT integrates trauma-sensitive interventions with cognitive behavioral principles to support emotional regulation, reduce trauma-related symptoms, and strengthen coping skills. Caregiver involvement is an important component, helping families heal together.

  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy blends cognitive therapy techniques with mindfulness practices. MBCT helps clients develop greater awareness of thoughts and emotions in the present moment, reducing reactivity and preventing patterns such as rumination or relapse into depression. This approach supports increased self-awareness, emotional balance, and healthier responses to stress.

  • Play therapy and creative interventions use developmentally appropriate methods, such as play, art, storytelling, and expressive activities, to help children and adolescents communicate, process emotions, and build coping skills. These approaches allow clients to express themselves in ways that feel natural and safe, supporting emotional growth, resilience, and healing. Creative interventions may also be integrated into therapy with teens and adults when helpful.
